Mission: S1E2: The Plomeek Soup Conundrum
Location: Bridge and Shuttlebay, USS Crazy Horse
Timeline: Day 5 at 1230

The viewscreen that dominated the forward section of the Luna-class ship's bridge showed the dilated effect of stars passing at warp, giving an almost hypnotic effect for the past 3 hours or so of warp travel. With a deft flick of the wrist, Lieutenant Salynn Oram urged the Crazy Horse out of warp travel and the streaks of stars on the screen coalesced into pinpricks of light. The helmsman looked back over her shoulder, still getting used to the abrupt change in command, and addressed Commander D'Anvers. "Sir, dropping to sublight. The Blackwell is just ahead."

"Very good, Mr. ... Oram," Cian said. Being active by nature, Cian more often than not found himself edging forward in his seat, and was in fact doing so now. "Did I get that right," he asked, the serious lines of his face softening into a smile that brought a sparkle to the depths of his hazel eyes.

Sal gave a polite nod, but the corners of her eyes crinkled with a subtle smile of her own. The new boss wasn't all business after all, she surmised. "Right as rain, sir," she lilted as she turned back to her console. Wouldn't do to be trying to socialize professionally with the new captain and end up running into the ship they had come to assist out of her distraction, after all.

"Hmmm, never thought of rain as being right but then, I'm not a farmer and, as I am so often reminded, I should never be allowed around any sort of plant. Mr .... Lae'Or," Cian said as he angled around to where his Security Chief stood directly behind him. "Get a security detachment down to the transporter room."

Tahlin gave the commander a little smile, trying to non-verbally convey that he'd pronounced her name right. Turning to her console, she frowned at the information she was receiving. "I would be happy to accommodate you, Captain, but Engineering reports that the transporters just went down. These issues are starting to get rather disruptive..." Her brow furrowed. "We'll have to use a shuttle, I'm afraid."

"Understood," Cian said. "Not, you know, thrilled but understood." He turned toward the Operations officer and said, "make sure that Engineering prioritizes those repairs."

"Aye, Sir," the Operations officer said. "Routing the order."

Suddenly Main Engineering came in, =/\= "Assistant Engineering Chief, Ensign Seshel to Commander D'Anvers. =/\=

"D'Anvers here," Cian said. Long years of practice had taught him the value of smoothing out his facial expressions and it was that, learned over long practice, that kept the smile from his face as the engineer's complete title was announced.

=/\= I request permission to work outside the ship, Sir. It's all in the emitter pad array. The EPA is causing the sporadic transporter malfunctions and we can't touch it from inside here. =/\= Romal stated, as he and a couple other engineers were just beginning to suit up.

"How long do you think you'll need," Cian asked; as he spoke he called up Operations' view of current functions, balanced to support engineering as well as the needs of the ship itself, and nodded thoughtfully to himself.

In the midst of getting his suit on, Romal had to stop and think. =/\= If its something simple, like the primary energizing coils, we could replace those in about an hour, but if it's the phase transition matrix, well, that could be twice as long. I would need at least one or maybe two hours, Sir. =/\=

"Hold off on that until we're sure what the situation is aboard the Blackwell, Mr. Seshel," Cian said. "We'll notify you once its safe. Bridge out."

"Mr. Lae'Or, we'll have to use the shuttle then. I don't want to wait for repairs to complete," Cian said. "Mr. Othran, assemble your away team and Mr. Oram, prep a shuttle for immediate departure."

"Aye, Sir," Alvar said. "Lt. Lae'Or, assemble a security team and meet me in the shuttle bay."

"Aye, Commander..." Tahlin rose, tapping her communicator as she went. "Lae'Or to Blackfeather, Jeffries, and Mac'Kensey. Report to the Shuttlebay immediately."

"Aye," came the voices of Mac'Kensey and Jeffries over the audio link.

"Understood. On my way," Neteri said closing the comlink.

"D'Anvers to Engineering," Cian said.

=/\="Logan here. Go ahead, sir."=/\=

"Mr. Logan, has anyone done a physical check of the Brig systems? I would not like to discover that we have no force fields to contain the prisoners?"

A hiss of sucked air came through the comm that sounded suspiciously like a grimace. =/\="No, sir, as there have been no reported issues, but I'll get someone right on it."=/\= There was a brief pause and a suppressed groan. =/\="I'll get right on it."=/\=

"Keep me informed," Cian said. "Bridge out." He turned toward the Operations officer. "Get me the Blackwell."

"Aye, Sir," the on-duty Operations officer said. After a few moments, he shook his head. "The Blackwell isn't responding to hails, Captain."

"Scan the ship," Cian ordered as he turned toward the Science station.

"Scanning Sir. The USS Blackwell is a standard Erewan class transport ship, crew of four with a hold of 22 prisoners. Power grid readings are nominal. Life support on emergency power. The Blackwell has RCS thrusters, however both impulse and warp drives appear down. Shields and weapons are offline. Communications appears down as well." Jasmine replied.

"Notify the away team and tell them they are clear to go," Cian said. As the Operations officer relayed the information to the away team, Cian sat back in his seat, turning over the problem in his mind. The connections were clear as was the end game.

"Aye Captain" Jasmine responded.

Marcus, from his usual station on the bridge, "hrumped" slightly as he listened to the "issues" plaguing the ship. Since the CIO had little or no Bridge duties as a general rule he busied himself with the problems at hand.

As his fingers danced over the LCARS screens he routed a duplicate screen of all transmissions coming to and from the Blackwell. As the multiple waveforms coalesced on his screen he looked for any abnormalities. He then compared the waveforms with those of the Crazy Horse looking for abnormal similarities. In a burst of insight, he pulled up a recent copy of Tzenkethi and known Pirate cadre transmissions for comparison also. he watched as the waveforms moved and intermixed waiting for that nugget of information that would tie it all together.

[Shuttlebay]

=/\=Bridge to Away team you are cleared for departure good luck! =/\= Jasmine said from the bridge.

"Acknowledged, bridge," Alvar said.

Tahlin entered at a quick pace. "Report," she called to Ensigns Jeffries and Blackfeather, along with crewman Mac'Kensey.

Mac'Kensey, a brown-haired human woman from Deneva, saluted smartly. "Ready, Sir."

Jeffries--clearly nervous--said, "Ready for this, Lieutenant."

Neteri, calm and cool, "Just a walk in the park boys! Ready for work Lieutenant!"

Mac'Kensey shot the other woman a look. Tahlin blithely ignored the bi-play.

Alvar came over. "I just spoke with the bridge," he told the security team. "The Blackwell isn't responding to hails. Scans are being conducted as we speak to see what can be learned, though we should prepare for the possibility that things might have gotten really ugly over there. It goes without saying to keep your guard up once we get over there."

"Quite... Phasers on stun, and don't get trigger happy, people... Who's flying us over?" Tahlin asked the Executive Officer.

"I'll be piloting the shuttle over," Alvar said. "With the recent problems with the Crazy Horse, it's felt that we should otherwise keep as much of the crew here as possible to help address things if any further problems occur."

"Right..." Tahlin turned to her team. "You heard the man--let's go!"

Entering the shuttle, Tahlin went forward. "Would you like me to copilot, Sir?"

"On the way over, I don't mind," Alvar said, taking the pilot's seat, "though on the way back, I think I'd prefer for you to be with the others in keeping an eye on our passengers. I do not wish to sound paranoid, but we're dealing with 5 convicted mass murderers, which alone is enough to make me very nervous. Add in to that the fact that two ships are suddenly experiencing inexplicable mass glitches, and, well..."

"My thoughts exactly, Commander... Lets get this over with."

Neteri boarded the shuttle quickly and took a seat. Checking her phaser and making sure it was on stun, she closed her eyes and pushed all thoughts from her mind. By doing this she became more in tune with her surroundings and was able to focus on the matter at hand.....keeping the prisoners secure and making sure they were completely free of any possible weapon. Looking at the others she engaged them in idol chatter till they were on the way.
