Marcus entered the bridge, walking behind the tactical station at the rear of the bridge. watching the controlled chaos of starship's bridge he marveled at the Luna class' design. The bridge of the Luna class, although similar to most Starfleet ships, was still different enough to show off the latest technologies. As he walked past the massive master system display on the rear wall he watched as the sliding bars and graphs displayed the inner workings of the Crazy Horse. Although, as the CIO he didn't have a dedicated position on the bridge, it still brought a sense of excitement when he was lucky enough to stand in its energy. As he arrived at the entrance to the Captain's ready room, he straightened, smoothed his uniform top and rang the chime. Wish me luck. He asked the Ship as he entered.
Sidonie looked up as the officer entered, matching face to personnel file as she waited for him to speak.
Marcus had never met an Invernian so to say he was awestruck was an understatement. Both the alabaster skin and long braided hair of the same hue set a dramatic air for Marcus. Catching himself from staring he looked into her startling blue-green eyes and reported. "Ma'am, Lieutenant Marcus Giaus Aurilieus." he stated formally, stopping a few steps in front of her desk and placing his hands behind his back. "Thank you for making time for me. I thought it would be prudent to meet prior to leaving the Starbase in case I needed to prepare anything Intel wise before departing." He tried to smile, but failed miserably. He just didn't have the ease of familiarity that most 'Fleeters seemed to have. Flexing his prosthetic as he was want to do when nervous he added "With that said. What questions can I answer for you?"
She arched one expressive brow though a white feathered brow against equally white skin was generally lost among the less subtle worlds. "It is customary," she said quietly, the subtle undulations of color peeking now and again from the depths of her thick hair muted somewhat for the moment, "for department heads to report in upon their arrival ... or do you not see yourself as part of the ship's complement but rather something ... else?"
"I am your Chief Intelligence Officer." added Marcus matter of factly. "I thought that this was my earliest opportunity and with the Ship being outfitted and staffed I merely thought you had more pressing engagements. I did not mean to present myself as anything other than a member of this crew." He flexed his hand slightly letting loose another low whirr of servos.
She nodded, satisfied, and gestured toward one of the two available seats. "Our primary mission will be exploration, specifically finding suitable candidate worlds for colonization. Going forward, I'd like you to an analysis of major players in the area for myself and Commander Othran. I'd like you to start with the Tzenkethi."
Marcus took the offered seat and folded his hands politely in his lap while he listened to the Captain. With the mention of the Tzenkethi he didn't miss a beat and nodded. "The Tzenkethi appear to have irked several of the major powers, the Federation included. Their incursions have become a major focus for the Federation, Romulan, and Klingon powers. What is unique is the incursions have coincided with an uptick in pirate raids throughout the expanse." He paused to allow the statement to register with the Captain. "Even though we have no proof of a connection. It is highly coincidental." He paused and waited for further questions.
"And while the Romulans have turned their attention to their own problems, there is a decided increase in pirate activity along their border." As she spoke she called up a map and gestured toward an area between the Romulan Empire and the Typhon Expanse. "Originally through here but that's been expanding down into the area that we'll be investigating as well. From the briefings I've received, it's believed that the Tzenkethi are taking advantage of the situation. Ferengi too from what I hear."
Marcus nodded. "The Ferengi take advantage of every situation." He added , matter-of-factly. "We can also throw in the Breen and Orion syndicate with possible in-roads. I can have complete briefs prepared once we are underway. What other questions do you have?"
"Only one," Sidonie said. "From time to time, I may need you to do field work. Spend time on a station or in a local market, taking in rumors, listening to what's being said. That sort of thing. Will you be equipped for that or would you need security to go with you?"
Marcus failed in hiding his grin. "Captain, I am fully certified for not only Away team operations, but also qualified for Clandestine service and covert source operations. I can take a security member with me if I can train them. However, I am fully capable to work alone and accomplish whatever mission you need me too." He paused and then added one last statement. "I am to be your scalpel when a surgical approach is needed and your sensor when you need timely intel. Starfleet Intelligence intended me to be your, I believe the term is Swiss Army Knife."
She made a mental note to look up the term later but understood that he would be a valuable addition to her senior staff. "Before I let you go," Sidonie said, "are there any questions you need to ask?"
Marcus thought for a moment flexing his hand. "Not a question but a statement." he took a deep breath before continuing. "I know that Starfleet has had issues with the Intelligence community for a while, based on past incidents. This has eroded the good, daily work that we do on a regular basis. I want to ensure you that I am this Ship's Intelligence officer. My loyalties are to you and this crew. While I serve Starfleet Intelligence, This ship is my priority for as long as you have me as your CIO." He attempted a smile as he finished. Hoping that he hadn't misread the Captain.
"If that's the case, then I think you'll be here for a long time to come, Lieutenant," Sidonie said. "Welcome aboard the Crazy Horse."
Sensing that he had answered all he could Marcus stood, struck his left breast with his closed fit in typical Magna Roman custom and extended his hand to the Captain. "I look forward to serving, Captain." he added turned and departed the ready room.
As the doors slid shut he stopped let out a long sigh and headed to his own office.
