A Productive Meeting

Mission:
S1E1: Out of the Barn
Location: USS Crazy Horse, Chief Security Officer's Office
Timeline: Day 2 at 1305
Tahlin checked her chronometer. Looked like her staff had things well in-hand; good time for her to meet with the XO. Hitting her combadge, she said, "Lae'Or to Othran... If you have the time, I'd like to meet with you--I can come to you, or you can come to me, it doesn't matter."
"I'm certainly available right now," Alvar said. "Would your office in a few minutes be a good location?"
"Yes, thank you... Any coffee or anything for you, so I can have it ready?"
"Oh, nothing for me," Alvar said. "Thanks, though."
"As you wish... Lae'Or out."
Alvar arrived at the security office a few minutes later and pressed the door chime. After receiving directions to enter, he headed inside. "Lt. Lae'Or, good to see you again," he replied. "What can I help you with?"
"Well, I just wanted to meet with you, get a feel for your and Commander Ysayne's expectations, answer any questions or concerns you have, that kind of thing."
"Certainly my door is always open for any issues that you may have," Alvar said. "Our overall expectations for everyone is...well, I suppose it's largely in-line with what is always expected of Starfleet Officers - do your jobs, and do them to the best of your abilities. As for any questions or concerns I may have, there's nothing that I can think of off the top of my head, though I'll certainly bring up any issues that may come up."
"Fair enough... Have you gotten a sense of how... Active of a captain Commander Ysayne will be? I mean, will she be going on away missions and the like, do you think?"
"Commander Ysayne almost does seem like the kind of person who'd be eager to jump into a wide variety of things, including away missions," Alvar said after a moment's thought, "though of course, if that is indeed the case I will certainly emphasize that the CO going on away missions is not something that Starfleet Command encourages these days for good reason. We've lost too many good COs on seemingly mundane away missions because of some fluke occurrence." After another moment, he added, "To be fair, though, I do get the distinct impression that Commander Ysayne does understand the value of delegating."
Tahlin pursed her lips. "If I may, Sir, I've always appreciated commanding officers who take an active interest in away missions, but you are right that we've lost too many... I'll do my best, if Commander Ysayne decides to exercise her prerogative, to keep her as safe as possible, assuming your or I can't dissuade her in the first place."
"That's good to know, Lieutenant," he said. "Commander Ysayne does also strike me as being someone who can be quite determined when she sets her mind to things. It may take both of us to dissuade her at times. Is there anything else you wanted to bring up?"
Tahlin mulled all this over a moment, then said. "One more thing before you go... I was wondering if you would be willing to look at this with the captain." She pulled an isolinear chip from her pocket. "It's a program for the crew lounge... My brother is a holo-engineer for a company that makes this kind of thing, and they were looking for somewhere to test it. I said I'd do what I could."
"Hopefully this will be an interesting program to have," Alvar said. "Not that I'm trying to question your brother by any means. It did bring a momentary flashback to an incident back when I was an ensign and another crewmember had brought a 'great' holoprogram on board for the 'enjoyment' of the crew that turned out to be a bunch of dancing baboons that was somehow both very fascinating and incredibly creepy at the same time."
"I tested it, Sir... Its fairly tame. Think they based it on Terran legends about piracy... Why there is such fascination with the lives of thieves and plunderers among humans, I cannot figure out."
"I imagine that there is a certain fascination with the idea of being able to live on the...how is it the humans phrase it? Ah, yes, living on the wild side."
"Quite... Once you and Commander Ysayne have reviewed it, I'd be happy to put it in the crew lounge, if you wish to go that route, Sir?"
"It's definitely something that sounds interesting," Alvar said. "No guarantees, of course, but it sounds interesting, and it's something that we'll certainly consider."
"Of course, Sir... If there's nothing else, I'm sure you've got important command things to do," Tahlin finished with a little laugh. "Thank you very much for meeting with me."
"Hey, my door is always open for these kinds of things," Alvar said.
