The Sitting Bull is Yours

Mission: S3E1: Time of Change
Timeline: Day 93 at 1150

From one ship to another, from one command to another, all done in the blink of a transporter beam. As he stepped up onto the platform, he smiled at the transporter technician. "Energize," he said quietly and the thought came to him that he had finally been aboard long enough to know the man's name. Kevin. Kevin Tran. He'd grown up on Earth, the only son of a brilliant mathematician. He wanted to run Operations one day. And now he was leaving. Another ship. Another command. A new adventure.

For expediency's sake, he arrived directly on the Bridge where the lead engineer was waiting for him. They'd already been in contact, numerous conversations over the past couple of days, all strictly business. Lieutenant Sovek was Vulcan through and through. Dedicated to logic and perfection. Not someone given to chat. He walked to the command platform, a raised oval in the center of the bridge, where Sovek waited, flanked by the rest of the engineering team. Cian wondered how they felt. Was it just another job to finish or did it feel more like giving up a treasured child?

"Are you ready to proceed, Captain," Sovek asked. His face smooth and impassive, his tone precise and devoid of feeling, there was still a sense of anticipation about him. A shred of emotion not quite locked away.

"Yes, I am," Cian said as he straightened.

"Very well, Sir. Attention to Orders," Sovek said. He held a PADD in one hand and began reading from it. "To Lieutenant Sovek, Design Team Lead and Interim captain of the USS Sitting Bull. You are hereby requested and required to relinquish command of the vessel to Captain Cian D'Anvers, Captain, USS Crazy Horse as of this date. Signed, Rear Admiral Josiah Rynott." Sovek looked up from the PADD and continued. "Computer, transfer all command codes to Captain Cian D'Anvers. Voice authorization Beta Tango Gamma 8144 Pi."

The computer responded promptly and as it responded in a neutral male voice, similar in tone and inflection to Sovek's own. Cian wondered idly if the Lieutenant had been the model but left the question unasked. "Transfer complete. USS Sitting Bull now under command of Captain Cian D'Anvers."

Cian, having just done the reverse of this conversation, said immediately, "I relieve you, Sir."

"I stand relieved," Sovek responded. "Our team will be available to you and your staff should there be any questions."

"Thank you," Cian said. "I"ll make sure they know."

There was no departure of course. Sovek and his team had a checklist to get through before they disembarked and while they were close, there was still a day's worth of checks to do. So far, there had been no problems reported. The Sitting Bull was a fine ship, ready as he was to begin exploring the unknown. There were many differences between this ship and the Crazy Horse, size, and resources, not to mention the sheer number of souls on board. Different with new faces -- Walking Bear in Engineering, a welcome change from the last idiot, and Annestri holding down the Chief of Security spot until someone could be found, Kiara as Chief Counselor. Still, there would be familiar faces -- J.J. as his First Officer (and didn't that bring a smile to his face), Lae'Or in Flight, and O'Hamlin as the Chief Medical Officer.

The ship was his and readying for departure and he had to say that he was as well. Readying to move on from past events, start something completely different.
