Accepting the Offer

Timeline: Day 92 at 0910

Kiara had left the offer from Captain D'Anvers somewhat up in the air, her concerns over leaving Solpec behind had made her talk to him about the offer and she had asked him to take the chance in applying to join the crew of the USS Sitting Bull. They were bonded now, to a certain degree, not the full mated bond that Vulcan's had with life partners but a partial bond ahead of that step. She'd lost Solpec once before, she didn't want to lose him again.

She placed a call to D'Anvers and waited for him connect.

Solpec sat with Kiara, and raised one eyebrow as he saw the individual she was talking to. "The captain of the Crazy Horse? Interesting, Kiara."

“You should have paid more attention to what I said the other night” Kiara grinned. “Instead of paying attention to what you were doing to me!” She winked playfully.

"Captain" Kia smiled warmly. "My apologies for keeping you in limbo regains my decision. "I have spoken to Solpec .." She turned to look at Solpec and offered a smile before turning back to Cian. "I would very much like to accept your invitation to join the USS Sitting Bull."

Behind her, Solpec raised one eyebrow. 'I wonder, will she want me to come with her?'

Kiara turned to look at Solpec. “Cian this is Solpec, he’s the Officer I was talking to you about.” She looked back at the screen. “Solpec and I ... we’re bonded. It’s taken me this long to realise that I shouldn’t have let him get away before.” She smiled at Solpec. “Solpec, I’d like you to apply to join the Sitting Bull. That’s if you’re willing?”

"Greetings, Captain... Have you need of an anthropologist with an interest in xenoarchaeology?"

"As I told the Lieutenant," Cian said, "you'll have to apply for a transfer to the Pathfinders and to the Sitting Bull specifically. Lieutenant Gallagher, who is my Chief Science Officer, has final say in how he staffs his department so your application will go through him."

"I will get on that directly after this call is complete, then... I look forward to being part of your crew, Captain."

“Solpec is an excellent Officer Sir, he’s one of the best in his line of work.” She was almost hoping Cian would just accept Solpec but she knew there was protocol to be followed. “I guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers and hope we can be assigned together.”

Cian shook his head slightly but answered politely enough as he focused his attention on Kiara. "Then he won't have any problem with his transfer, will he?" He sighed, a slight whisper of sound. "I'm sure you read the news. Admiral Cash, among others, have recently come under fire for exactly the sort of thing you're hinting at right now. I do not hold with nepotism nor will I give him a position because you and he are involved. As I said, Lieutenant Solpec, if you request a transfer, Lieutenant Gallagher will review your files and be in touch with you. We will be here until after the court martial at least so there's time."

"I expect no special treatment, Captain--thank you." Solpec nodded, gave Kiara a Vulcan smile, and withdrew.

Kiara watched Solpec step away before turning back to Cian. “I wouldn’t ask for preferential treatment you know that.” She offered a smile. “I said yes before and I’m not going to mess you about so my answer remains the same.”

"That's good," Cian said. "Lieutenant Gallagher is first-rate and if they're already working together, I don't doubt that he'll be agreeable." He smiled and within the depths of that smile was a hint of understanding. Never easy to find someone and then face the possibility of loss. "So ... you'll get your transfer orders and then you can report aboard. And in any case, I'll see you both at the party."

Kiara nodded and smiled. “Of course, I’ll look forward to it. It’ll give us chance to catch up properly as well.”

"Have another one of these scheduled in about five minutes, so I'm going to have to cut this short." He smiled, gray eyes twinkling with pleasure. "And if I haven't said so already, congratulations to you both. D'Anvers out."

Kiara stood and walked over to Solpec. “Please tell me that you’ll talk with Gallagher about a transfer? I don’t want to lose you when I’ve only just found you again.”

Solpec let one eyebrow rise at her, then brought out his hand from behind his back, showing her a PADD. "I am already working on it. Indeed, I always have a transfer request form in my active files, as a logical precaution... It was in case I found you again, and we were serving on different vessels... It seems to have paid off."

Kia looked at Solpec in surprise. “You were planning to transfer all this time!?” Her smile said it all as she looked at him. “You are ...” She shook her head as she smiled at a loss for words. “I honestly don’t know how to explain how I feel. Elated doesn’t touch it!”

"You could say thank you." Solpec replied to her deadpan.

“I’ll do more than that!” She embraced him and gave him a long passionate kiss. “I know we’ve only just met and we need to date again but I couldn’t resist!” She grinned. “Thank you Solpec.”

"Of course, Kiara." He stroked her hair with one hand. "I assume you would like me to put this aside for the moment?"

Kiara grinned. “Only if I’m not making you go against your better instincts.”

"I think I can put this aside for what you have in mind." He gently caressed her cheed, then reached out telepathically. 'You make me a better person, Kiara, just as I hope I make you a better person.'

Kiara nodded as she looked into Solpec’s eyes. “You are the best part of me Solpec, my heart and my soul as they both belong to you.
