The One and Only: Party Planning

Mission:
S3E1: Time of Change
Location: Blue Parrott, USS Crazy Horse
Timeline: Day 92 at 1450
A ship in port is a quiet thing with only a skeleton crew on board. Good for getting caught up, for thinking things through, but at the same time, sad as well. There had been a quote about ships. Ships are safe in harbor but that's not what ships are for, that was it. He remembered it from a course he'd taken back before Starfleet when he was still struggling to understand this new world. Shedd had had it right. The Crazy Horse was meant to be out there even if he wouldn't be the one in command. Cian made his way down to the Blue Parrot, nodding to those few crew members he passed, and went over the parameters he had in mind for the party. Sad that his first onboard this ship would also be his last; he'd have to do better with that onboard the Sitting Bull.
"Ah good afternoon Captain." Jeysa said from across the room.
He walked over to where the two women were sitting and said, "Thank you both," he said as he approached the table where they sat, "for taking the time to meet with me."
"Of course..." Renee motioned to the platter of cheese and crackers between the two women. "Help yourself--we just wanted a bit of a snack... Is this a social call, or business? And, I heard a rumor about a new ship?" The human gave the shipmaster a concentrated look.
"Where did you hear that?" Jeysa asked shooting a look at Renee.
"Thank you but no to the food." Cian slid into an open seat, drew a breath, and spoke. "And ... its not a social call exactly. I want the two of you to plan a party here on the Crazy Horse. The official announcement will be coming out tomorrow but since its already getting around, I've accepted the captaincy on a Pathfinder vessel, the USS Sitting Bull. So, its going to be a good-bye party though I'll have some official business to conduct as well. Could the two of you help me out with this?" He shrugged his shoulders slightly as he added, "Not much for this kind of thing so I would need your expertise."
Renee looked to her boss. "Gossip travels at Warp Ten--you know that... If you're game, I'm game... What kind of a party were you thinking, Captain?"
"I'm thinking a sit down meal, I'll do my part, and then we'll open the night up for music and dancing which is about as far as I go with this," Cian said as he ran a hand through his hair. "Not my specialty. Could you pull something together for tomorrow night? Would there be enough time?"
"hhmmm, if we were out in deep space I'd say we need more time, but with us being here I reckon anything we might need we should be able to get easy enough." Jeysa said after a moment pondering, she picked up one of the crackers and twiddled it around. "Is there going to be any sort of theme for it, or just a general party?"
"Excellent." And then their question registered which brought a puzzled look to his face. "Theme. Look, not my area of expertise. I'd like this to be a memorable evening for the crew. So, I'm going to leave this in your capable hands. Food, a chance for me to talk, music and dancing afterward."
"If you're wanting to talk to the whole crew at once in person it would be very difficult to do it on the ship, we don't have enough room for everyone in one location." Jeysa idly tapped the edge of the cracker on the table as she thought. "We'd need a much bigger space, enough for a few hundred."
"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea," Cian said. "If it can't be done, then I'll go about it differently, that's all."
"I didn't say it couldn't be done Captain," Jeysa quickly said hoping to turn Cian's thoughts away from the idea. "just not ideally on the ship, I bet we can get a nice place somewhere on earth to do it, a big conference hall or something like that."
"Off the ship would be better in any case, I think. Well, I'll leave the planning in your capable hands. Shall we say, tomorrow evening at say, 2000 hours?"
Jeysa looked across at Renee, it was going to take some doing to arrange things in that time frame but it'd be interesting to try. "I think we might be able to manage that."
Cian rose smoothly from the table, "Provide me the location once you know it and I'll issue the invitations to the crew." He tipped an imaginary hat and headed out of the lounge to move onto the next thing he had to get done.
"He doesn't ask for much, does he?" Was Renee's comment as the Captain left. "Fortunately, I know a few people... I think we can get a spot for the crew pretty easily... There's an old Earth recipe I've been wanting to try in any case... Your thoughts?"
"It's going to take more than just us to cater for 300 or so people, even buffet style with replicators. This is quite a big deal on such short notice." Jeysa remarked. "I might be able to get us some extra people, might cost me a few bottles of the good stuff though."
Renee winked at the Trill. "Leave it to me... I know people, and if we really get in a bind, I've got a friend at the Andorian Embassy who owes me a big favor. We'll make it work, I know we will. The captain might want a lot, but that's why we're here."
"You'd best get calling then, we don't have long." Jeysa chuckled. "We'd best start thinking about what we're going to wear too."
