Mission: S2E1: The Skunil Incident
Location: Bridge, Deck 1, USS Crazy Horse
Timeline: Day 1 at 0830

Having finished with the last of the personnel transfers, Cian walked onto the bridge. Word had gotten around, as it did on every ship he'd served on, that the Crazy Horse was going back to work today. He felt an almost palpable anticipation in the air as he made his way to the center chair and took his seat. His gaze went at once to his first officer as he said, "Well, Number One, I think its time we got back to work. Enough ... what is that expression ... lollygagging in port."

Jasmine was sitting at her station, science 1. She had just finished a calibration diagnostic. Sensors were already coming online.

"I was supposed to be lollygagging?" countered J.J. looking over at Cian. "I must have missed the memorandum. Damn, next time then" he added with a smile. "Perhaps, next time we are at port I'll request a shuttle and take the kiddies out on a field trip."

"First Officers do not have the luxury of lollygagging unless, of course, we're taking shore leave on Risa," Cian said. "From what I've heard its the ultimate destination for lollygagging."

Jodon nodded "A good planet for that indeed, Sir. I am not so much a lollygagger" he stated. "Though I've always wanted to go Beta Omicron Delta III" he added.

"Remind me when we're due for shore leave again," Cian said. "That could be fun indeed."

New faces and old surrounded him but he knew them. Oh, not as well as he would in the months and years ahead, but he knew them. He turned unerringly toward the Operations officer, barely aboard and hardly settled in, and said, "Mr. Syndel, request department readiness for departure."

"Aye Sir." Larissa responded. She shuffled in the seat a little, it needed a few minor adjustments but everything else felt just the same as the ship she'd just left. =/\= All departments report readiness for departure=/\=

=/\= This is Cash in Engineering. We are a GO. =/\=

Tuned into the frequency, Kieran looked over his desk, activating the receiver as the conversation dialed in. "Nachtgeist. Diplomacy is a go. Our link to the FDC is established and at your disposal."

"Counseling is ready for departure," Fawkes purred over comms. "Bring on your tension, your anxiety, your sleepless nights. I have tea and I am ready to help."

=/\= Dr. Hamlin, Sick Bay. We're ready. =/\=

Lae'Or looked over from her console to the command team. "Security ready... Phasers available, torpedoes ready--if we need them. Sensors and communications fully functional."

Cian listened to the reports; he hadn't expected anything different but then again, you never knew for sure. "Mr. Yemata, request clearance for departure," Cian said as he leaned back in his seat. It felt right, being back out on patrol, doing the job.

"Aye, Captian," Yemata said. Fresh out of the Academy with his just a little too perfect hair and earnest smile, reached out at once to the starbase in a voice that rang out a bit too loudly. "Starbase 375, this is USS Crazy Horse requesting clearance to depart."

Cian listened as the response came in over comms, the voice cracking slightly, and it made Cian think suddenly of teenagers hitting puberty. "USS Crazy Horse, you are cleared to depart on fight path Alpha Two. Safe travels, Crazy Horse."

"Alpha Two. Thank you, Starbase 375," Yemata answered as he squirmed in his seat. Eager to be away, to begin, to move swiftly from training to reality. "Captain, we are cleared to depart."

"Take us out," Cian said. "Once we're clear lay in a course for Skunil. Warp 8."

"Aye, Sir," Yemata answered. Nimble fingers danced across the control panel freeing the Luna Class vessel by retracting the umbilicals that kept the Crazy Horse tethered. After setting the maneuvering thrusters to station keeping, Yemata released the moorings and, after checking to be sure that the navigational deflectors and SIF were operating within normal parameters, began to maneuver the ship clear of the starbase.

Lae'Or smiled as the science vessel moved out into the blackness, like a fish, pushing off from a safe shoal or reef. She took a moment to look around the bridge, observing the other crew there. The commander, the XO, Ops, Helm, Science, Engineering--her own station of course. All were ready for what lay ahead, all were Starfleet, and all would do their best.

"Course plotted and laid in," Yemata said. At half-impulse, the Crazy Horse followed the Alpha Two flight path and once entirely clear leapt to warp. By his estimation, Yemata thought, it would be about thirty-eight days before they reached Skunil and that was just fine with him. That was thirty-eight days where he could be the one flying the Crazy Horse at least part of the time. Life, as they say, was good.
