An Orion Onboard

Posted on 07/02/2020 @ 12:41pm by Lieutenant JG Larissa Syndel & Captain Cian D'Anvers

Mission: S2E1: The Skunil Incident
Location: Captain's Ready Room, Deck 1
Timeline: Day 1 at 0800

Stepping through the docking port onto Starbase 375 Larissa hefted her bag over her shoulder, she'd been delayed but had seen the Luna class starship docked at the base as her transport was docking. Glad that her new home was still waiting for her she made a beeline towards the other side of the docking area.

Soon she reached the security checkpoint outside the docking port to the ship a young human Ensign looked up as she approached. "Good morning Lieutenant, can I help?"

Larissa smiled at the young man. "I have orders to report onboard." She pulled a Padd from her bag and handed it to him.

The Ensign took the Padd and flicked through it before handing it back. "Welcome to the Crazy Horse Ma'am." He tapped the console he sat at and the door to the docking port opened.

"Thank you Ensign." Taking her Padd back she stored it in her bag took a deep breath and started to walk down the docking tube into the ship.

"Computer, locate Captain D'Anvers." She asked after finally entering the ship, everything seemed familiar straight away.

"Captain D'Anvers is in the ready room." The computer replied.

Already knowing the layout of a Luna class she turned and headed down a corridor towards a turbolift, taking it up to the bridge.

As the door opened and she stepped out a few faces turned to look at her for a moment before turning back to their duties, a few lingered slightly longer and she knew why. An Orion in a starfleet uniform wasn't very common.

Crossing the bridge Larissa tapped the chime for the Captains ready room.

[Ready Room]

Nearing time for departure, Cian sat at his desk, one hand curled around the base of his teacup, as he read through the most recent batch of orders and communiques. He was pleased to see that Human Resources had given up on using the Crazy Horse as their favorite poaching grounds. Now, he thought, if I can just get the ship away from the starbase without hearing from admirals or personnel thieves, life will get back to some semblance of normal.

He looked up at the chime and called out, "Enter."

Leaving her bag outside but not before grabbing her orders Padd Larissa steped through the door. "Captain," She started as she approached. "Lt Syndel, reporting for duty." She finished coming to attention.

Cian accepted the orders and scanned the formalized wording that were a part of most Starfleet missives with the speed of experience. "Everything looks to be in order," he said as he handed the PADD back to the Lieutenant. "Please have a seat."

Breaking her stance she took the Padd back and sat down in the chair opposite him. "Thank you."

"As you know, we're due to head out shortly. We've taken on supplies intended for Free Haven and while I believe everything is in order, you'll, no doubt, want to check it all yourself." He paused for a moment as though searching for the appropriate wording. "I am aware that you will need to take pheromone inhibitors so you'll be expected to report in to our Chief Medical Officer. Dr. ..." The name of the new doctor stubbornly refused to come to mind and then, mercifully, surfaced, "Hamlin ... who is also new on board."

Larissa nodded, she expected him to mention pheromone blockers, Starfleet didn't like it's crew following a Orion around the ship like dogs on a lead. "Understood."

"Do you have any questions," Cian asked.

"You said we head out shortly, how shortly? Am I required for duty immediately or will I have some time to settle in." Larissa asked.

"About a half an hour till we leave the starbase," Cian said and then added, after doing some rough calculations in his head, "but there will be plenty of time after that to settle in. So, if there's nothing else, welcome to the Crazy Horse."

'Glad my transport wasn't delayed much longer by that storm.' Larissa though as she stood up. "Thank you Captain, I'll see to my quarters and then I will be ready." Taking his last words to be her dismissal she turned and headed out the door.

Stopping only to pick her bag up she asked a junior officer on the bridge which quarters were assigned to her and stepped back into the turbolift
