Some New Transfers

Mission: S1E3: Visit to Starbase 375
Location: XO's office
Timeline: Day 1 at 1315

Alvar sat in his office. He'd been finishing up some work prior to heading over to the party on the station, at the bar of a Ferengi named Quevrik, when he got a notification of some new transfers.

Alvar nopted that it was for a new chief engineer, along with several engineers (consisting of one ensign and several enlisted personnel) and that the captain had just signed off on it. The chief engineer was a Lieutenant junior grade Alexander Cash. The surname sounded familiar, and after a moment of checking it became clear why - his father was the Assistant CinC of Starfleet.

Alvar started going over Lt. Cash's service record, and began wondering how the guy was even in Starfleet, much less getting his current assignment. Highly skilled, particularly when it came to engineering matters, yet (according to many of his past superiors) seemed to have a history of being just as unmotivated and a troublemaker (as he did manage to get court-martialed no less than three times before he'd even graduated from the Academy) as he was intelligent.

'Oh, this is going to be fun,' Alvar thought dryly. He was going have to ask the captain what had motivated him to approve the transfer (though Alvar could probably guess, if if had to do with what the humans referred to as 'kissing up' to Admiral Cash in the hopes of getting some useful favor in return at some point down the line; the Ferengi even had several Rules of Acquisition that could apply to this situation, including the 33rd - "It never hurts to suck up to the boss" - and 111th - "Treat people in your debt like family...exploit them.")

This guy, though...well, Alvar hoped this wouldn't make the whole Ch'Alwanara affair look like a walk in the park (remembering the former chief of operations of the Ulysses during part of the time Alvar was serving there, who'd been running an illegal gambling ring on the lower decks of the ship and who, it was learned during the subsequent investigation, had major ties to the Orion Syndicate).
