Mission:
S1E1: Out of the Barn
Location: USS Crazy Horse, Deck Eight, Chief of Security's Office
Timeline: Day 4 at 2000
Tahlin sat back at her desk after her talk--and subsequent shooting match--with the ships doctor. Lets see... Oh, have to officially meet two of my people--well, reintroduce myself to one. She hit a comm control.
"Lae'Or to Ensigns Blackfeather and Mendyar. Please report to my office."
Mendyar--a Benzite--entered quickly. "What can I do for you, Lieutenant Lae'Or?"
"I'd think you can be a little less formal with me, at least until Ensign Blackfeather gets here... How's the family."
"Oh, fine... I just saw most of them before coming here."
"Good--ah, here's Ensign Blackfeather."
"You called Chief?", Neteri said smiling warmly. "I was just going to put my phase rifle in the armory.
"Not a problem, Ensign... This is Ensign Mendyar--together, you two are currently my most senior officers."
Nodding to Ensign Mendyar, "Pleasure Ens. Mendyar I'm sure," Neteri said extending her hand to him.
The Benzite shook it, still puzzling at the odd humanoid mannerism. "Likewise."
Tahlin spoke up. "Have a seat, both of you... How do you think the department's doing? I have my opinions, but I like input... Miss Blackfeather, you first if you don't mind?"
"Um...you can call me Neteri and as far as I see we might improve security by putting monitors in blind spots. Perhaps add some in the hangar bays as well. I have had a few incidents where the shuttles have been tampered with. However I am not the boss only a humble peon", Neteri said chuckling.
"Shuttles tampered with? ... What kind of tampering? We're still at a starbase." Tahlin's tone was curious, with just a hint of steel in it.
Smiling, Neteri heard the tone of her boss' voice and countered, "Well yes ma'am, I know we are still at a base but while we are here, wouldn't it be prudent to have it done before we leave? It would help in keeping an eye on the shuttlebays. You can never be to safe out here," Neteri added.
"I still want to know what you mean by 'tampering'. That's a very serious charge to make." Tahlin's tone was stern--she wanted answers, and she wanted them now.
Shaking her head as her boss misread what she said. "Ma'am, none of our shuttles have been tampered with so far. You misunderstood my meaning. I come from a line of ships where being careful is paramount. So, thinking of the security for this ship, I suggested that we put monitors in the blind spots in the shuttlebay to preventtampering with the shuttles and fighters", Neteri said, hoping this time it was fully understandable.
"I see... Next time, choose your words more carefully, please... Ensign Mendyar, work with Ensign Blackfeather to make sure the shuttlebay's blind spots are covered. Coordinate with Ops and Engineering if you have to."
"Yes Ma'm," came Mendyar's response.
"Understood Ma'am. We'll get it taken care of it asap. Thank you", Neteri said finally. Grateful that it was finally understood by her boss, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Turning to Mendyar, "Come on, let's get these monitors pit up in the blond spots and tie them in with the main console. The sooner we get it done the happier the Chief will be", Neteri added.
"Aye." The Benzite rose, gave Tahlin a look, and followed the human woman out the door. For her part, Tahlin sat back and thought about the meeting. It had been short, and Ensign Blackfeather seemed eager to please... Almost too eager. This will bare watching, she thought.
