Mission: S1E1: Out of the Barn
Location: Initially, Transport Arriving at Starbase 614
Timeline: Day 1 at 0700

Curled up on the sofa beneath a warm blanket, teacup within easy reach, Sidonie was deeply immersed in a book on Vulcan philosophy. The author was drawing a parallel between old earth stoicism, a philosophy created by one Zeno of Citium, who taught in someplace called Athens from about 300 BC but wasn't made famous until found by the philosophers Epictetus and Seneca, and Marcus Aurelius, a Roman Emperor from 161-180 AD. There had been a brief pause while she investigated while time went backward and short journey into Greece and Rome before her return to the subject at hand.

Epictetus taught, “There is only one way to happiness, and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” The author pointed out the similarity to a Vulcan proverb, “In accepting the inevitable, one finds peace.” Both emphasized the necessity of eliminating emotional struggle with anything that cannot be controlled or changed.

She set the PADD down for a moment to take a sip of her tea and think over what was being said. As the captain of a starship, this was not a philosophy that came easily to her. Savoring the tea, Vulcan Yellow Leaf in honor of the subject matter, Sidonie's contemplation was interrupted yet again by the Bridge. One would think that being a passenger would mean no interruptions she thought as she headed toward the desk tucked under the viewport, teacup still in hand. And apparently, one would be entirely wrong.

"Ysayne," she said as the bridge officer came into view. "What can I do for you, Ensign?"

"Oh nothing, ma'am. Captain just wanted you to know that we're about to dock with Starbase 614. He said you should be able to get a glimpse of the Crazy Horse as we make our approach."

"Thank you, Ensign," Sidonie said as she broke the connection and settled back. "I stand corrected," she announced to the room. "Some interruptions are ... welcome."

There was a sparkle in the depths of her blue green eyes as the Luna Class USS Crazy Horse came into view. The stats came willingly to mind. 445 meters in length and 205 meters in width. 16 decks and a crew of 375 counting civilians and herself. Numbers unspooling in her mind, the product of briefings and discussions. The Crazy Horse wasn't designed to go toe to toe in a fight but she was fast and capable and she wasn't without protection if it came to that. Sidonie had gone through enough simulations already to understand what the ship could do in any number of conditions. And too, this ship ... her ship ... was intended for exploration and she was well-suited to the task.

She only rose when the transport turned toward its assigned port; packing came easily after nearly twenty years in Starfleet. By the time, the ship went to station keeping and the umbilicals attached, she was ready to go.

More than ready.
