An Invitation: Lae'Or Tahlin

Mission: S3E1: Time of Change
Location: Exploratory Corps Offices, Federation Headquarters, Earth
Timeline: Day 92 at 0830

With the crew being on shore leave and away from the ship, Cian resorted to the less optimum means of contact. Having made his own decision, it was time to bring his key people in so that they too could make their own decision. Dressed casually, in a cream sweater over loose fitting gray pants, he waited for Lieutenant Lae'Or to accept the communication request.

"Captain, this is a surprise... Why do I see the logo of the EC instead of the normal one? ... You're lucky you didn't call five minutes earlier... What may I do for you, Sir?"

Cian smiled, a rarity in his Starfleet days, but a more frequent thing over the last couple of days. A tiny bit of outward proof that he was on the right path at last. He had noted that people tended to bunch bits of conversation together, something he'd always had a problem with since it was his nature to answer individual points. "Sorry to intrude on your shore leave," Cian said. "And I won't keep you any longer than necessary, I promise. There have been some recent developments though that I want to share with you. If now isn't a good time, I can contact you later."

"No, now is entirely fine... I apologize for my flustered state... Personal things..." A coffee mug came into view over the visual pickup. "There we go... You have my attention--what developments, Captain? I must say, you're looking happier than I've seen you."

"Umm, thank you ... I think," Cian said. "Okay so, here's the thing. And it will answer your question about the logo as well. I was up for a position that I didn't know about and didn't apply for but once I heard the details, I couldn't resist. I've accepted a position as captain aboard a Pathfinder vessel, the USS Sitting Bull. So, I'll be leaving the Crazy Horse and I'm looking for crew for my new command."

Tahlin stared at him over the video link. "So, you want me to join you... As Conn officer?"

Cian nodded. "Flight would be a bigger task than on the Crazy Horse. Significantly bigger but yes, I would like to offer you the position, if you're willing."

"Certainly... I would be honored, Captain... When do we leave? I'd better read up on the ship specs, for one."

"First," Cian said, accenting the point he was making by pointing his index finger, "you'll receive orders transferring you out of Starfleet and into the Pathfinders. The EC. Depending on past training, you might be required to take a course or even just pass a survival test. But once you're in, you'll report to the Sitting Bull. Brand new, third of its class, so you'll probably be able to query the ship's computer for information once you're on board."

"As for leaving..." his hand returned to his coffee mug, looped once more around the base, "our departure date hasn't been set at yet." His expression quieted, turned serious and thoughtful. "After the court martial certainly." There was a pause, a momentary lull brought on by the weight of Syndel's actions, and then he continued, "Oh! You're going to receive an invitation to a party I'm hosting. I expect you'll attend and yes, you can bring a date."

"Did I hear a party with a date?" An accented voice came from the screen. A Klingon head came into focus. "Pardon me, Captain--I think Tahlin was about to talk about me."

"K'Taal, must you?" Tahlin laughed lightly, then addressed the captain. "Sorry about that--she's sometimes very insistent... We'll be there, and it'll be perfect, as K'Taal is taking up her own position on a deep space exploration mission."

"Well, I'll see you then and," Cian turned to address the newcomer, "ponglIj yISov."

K'Taal grinned at him. "Your accent could use a bit of work, but not bad."

"We'll see you there, Captain, and thank you."
