Mission:
S3E1: Time of Change
Location: Temporary Office, Starfleet Headquarters
Timeline: Day 80 at 1300
The office was reasonable if a bit Federation-bland, but it wasn't his Ready Room which meant that Cian wasn't entirely comfortable. Because both he and his first officer had been in debriefings and meetings pretty much nonstop since the Crazy Horse's arrival, this was a nod to expediency; truth be told, while he navigated personnel issues, he could see the advantages of being here where he could make face-to-face contact with anyone who tried to foist off some malcontent family member on him.
Strolling down the office block, her tail swishing slightly as she walked. Mimi checked off the numbers against the one on her Padd as she searched for the right room. An Ensign giving her a Padd with orders to report to the Captain of the Sitting Bull had certainly been a surprise for her and she was nervous, unexpected meetings with Co's she'd never heard of commanding ships she'd never heard of was not always a good thing. "Room 23.....24...25!" Stopping she took a deep breath and tapped the chime.
"Enter," Cian said and then returned his attention to the screen. "Understood. I have a meeting now but I can be there in say ... a half hour?" He nodded to the speaker's soft response. "Very good. See you then." The connection closed, replaced by the Starfleet logo, as Cian looked up.
Mimi entered through the door and stood patiently as Cian finished his conversation, something seemed off with him, he looked human but didn't smell human, she thought about what he might be but quickly pushed it aside when he looked up at her, she came to attention. "Captain Danvers, Lieutenant Mimi reporting as ordered."
"Lieutenant Mimi," he repeated and then, his light gray gaze landed on the list before him and he nodded. "Ah yes, our replacement for Operations, right?"
"I am?" Mimi asked a little surprised, her long ears twitching several times. "Sir, my orders did not mention a reassignment."
Cian leaned back in his chair as he said, "And just what did you think you were reporting here for, Lieutenant? Because the orders that I have say that you're to take over Operations."
"Until you said that I thought perhaps your ship would be taking me back to somewhere near my ship Sir, my shore leave is over in a few days." Mimi replied. "But that is not the case."
"No, you wouldn't report to me if you were to be a passenger nor am I running a transport vessel. What ship were you on, Lieutenant," he said as he gestured for her to take one of the two seats facing the desk.
Mimi broke stance and took a seat. "I was the assistant chief Ops on the USS Galileo." She felt her tail subconsciously searching for a leg of the chair and wrapping itself around it.
"For how long," Cian asked. "And who's her Captain?"
"The ship is Commanded by Captain Lirha Saalm." Mimi said, all this information was in her file but she'd figured out some officers liked to hear it straight from the 'horses mouth' "I was an Operations officer for two years then most of last year I was the acting chief while we were out in deep space. We got a new chief late last year so I was given the assistant chief position."
He found it interesting that, rather than be made the permanent Chief, they had instead demoted her to Assistant Chief but that happened sometimes. It didn't necessarily mean anything problematic though he resolved to find ten minutes somehow to go through her file. Personnel tended to be ... whimsical ... in crew assignments at least where he was concerned. "How many crew members on the Galileo," he asked after a moment.
"The Galileo is a heavily refitted Nova class, around 90 crew." She told him.
"The Crazy Horse is a bit larger," Cian said. "350 all told. Not a huge change."
"I've worked on a ship that size as my first posting, the USS Charleston, an Akira." Mimi said though she was just a regular officer back then.
"So, it should be a relatively easy adjustment for you." There was a lot that he left out and a part of him that wanted assurance that she was sane and capable and wouldn't do something illegal. But as his old instructor used to say, Starfleet officers were expected to trust their fellow officers. Harder these days in the aftermath of recent events. He shrugged the thought off and continued. "As luck would have it, the crew is on shore leave for the moment. Plenty of time for you get to settled and have some fun. So, unless you have any questions, enjoy your shore leave and you'll be notified when we're ready to go."
Mimi thought for a moment, she'd only bought some of her trinkets and keepsakes with her, only the ones she never left behind anywhere. "I have most of my personal aff..aff... items still on the Galileo, is there enough time for them to be transferred here?"
"Depends on how long its going to take for your belongings to arrive but I suspect there will be time," Cian responded. "I suggest you get in touch with the Galileo and make the arrangements yourself."
"Aye Sir." Mimi smiled, she hoped there would be time.
"Well, if there's nothing else, Lieutenant," Cian said. "You're dismissed. Enjoy your shore leave."
"Thank you Sir." Mimi's tail uncoiled itself from the chair as she stood up and headed for the door, she thought about the calls she was going to have to make, one official one much more personal.
