Two Jobs, Two Reports (Part 1)
Posted on 08/03/2020 @ 10:26pm by Master Chief Petty Officer Henri Boudreaux
Mission:
S2E1: The Skunil Incident
Location: Office of the Chief of Security
Timeline: Day 38 at 1715
He had taken the time to unpack and get settled while he waited for the away team to return and the Chief of Security to have enough time for a meeting; he'd been pleasantly surprised to discover she would see him today and made haste to arrive at her office five minutes ahead of schedule. He'd been that way his entire life. Always early to arrive and happy to wait especially if he could read while doing so. He pressed the chime and waited for permission to enter.
"Enter." Tahlin was just going over reports, and, dry as they were, needed a break. Hopefully, it wasn't anything too depressing or urgent.
Henri entered and walked up to the desk, presenting his orders, as he spoke in a voice infused with southern charm and his Cajun roots. "Master Chief Henri Boudreaux reporting for duty, Sir." There was within him the sudden urge to send a silent apology to his mother who, he knew, would have scolded him proper for addressing a woman in such fashion. He wondered, as he waited for her reply, if Starfleet could survive the onslaught of the Boudreaux elders and their view on how life should be lead.
Tahlin took the proffered PADD. "At ease, and take a seat--you look as though you've had a long journey..." She studied him a moment. "Its good to meet you--truth be told, I need a good security officer with some experience. To use a human term, most of my people are either greenhorns or have specific duties to attend to aboard ship."
Henri slipped into the offered seat. "Thirty-eight days aboard cargo vessel that doubles as transport and twenty-five years in investigative work," he said. "Tolerable trip and helped not to have an idiot for a bunk mate. As to the work, its a pleasure to know I'll be of use."
The Bajoran gave him a quirked eyebrow. "You like being a Master Chief then? With your time in the fleet, you could have gone to officer's school ages ago... Also, what is that accent? I swear I've heard it before, but I can't place it."
Henri shrugged slightly. "Never seemed to find the time," he said. "There was always something that needed doing. And yes, I like who I am, what I do. The enlisted tend to get overlooked or taken for granted. I make sure that doesn't happen. As to the accent, I'm Cajun. Grew up in DeSoto Parish, small town where everyone is deep into everyone else's business. Didn't start learning Federation Standard until I was in school."
Tahlin grinned. "Similar to me, then. Spent the first few years of my life in a small town on Bajor. Moved to the capital after the Occupation..." She pulled up something on her computer. "Got your records here--pretty good reports from your previous postings... What's this--you saved your captain's life?"
"Oui, Henri said with an eloquent shrug. "A negotiation gone wrong. I was focused on the audience, just doing my job. Tackled the captain and security in the back got the guy before he could get away. Whole lot of questions afterward about how he managed to get a weapon into the building."
"I'm sure... Well, everything looks in order here. I'm sure you'll be running into my assistant chief--Catian by the name of M'Raul. Any questions or concerns, please let me know... If there's nothing else...?"
"No, Sir," Henri said as he rose smoothly to his feet, knowing a cue when he heard one. With a respectful nod, he turned and headed out the door. Off to the next in the multi-stage process that was on-boarding.
