What To Do About Men

Mission:
S2E1: The Skunil Incident
Location: Sickbay- Deck 5
Timeline: Day 1 at 1530
With the ship finally underway and with her not being needed on the bridge anymore Larissa made her way down to deck five and to the sickbay. If she'd had the time she'd have gone there first but the Captain wanted her on duty straight away so she went to duty.
Rounding the corner she reached the double doors of sickbay and stepped inside, she saw a nearly hairless human stood nearby. "Excuse me, I'm looking for Lt Hamlin."
“That would be me,” answered Chet cheerfully, his unsmiling face giving the statement a somewhat grumpy tone. “What can I do for you?”
"I'm Larissa, I just managed to get onboard before we left. Captain wanted me to come see you for a check up." Larissa smiled slightly.
"Physicals!" exclaimed Chet in a believable approximation of excitement. "The best part about being a doctor!" And then his face fell. "If you believe that, I've got a bridge on the Kobiashi Maru I'll sell you. Nobody likes physicals, not even the doctors. Anyway, come on. Over here and we'll get you sorted," he added, indicating a nearby biobed.
"I need an o-type pheromone blocker shot too." Larissa sat as she sat herself down onto a bio bed. "Mine only has a couple of days left on it."
"Ah, that, at least, is of interest," Chet admitted, perking up a bit. He asked a passing nurse to retrieve the blocker for him and opened his tricorder to begin scans. "Any complaints of a medical nature?" he asked. "You see, I always have to specify medical because otherwise, I'll end up hearing endless prattle about spouses and children and the command structure. It gets very tedious."
Larissa chuckled slightly. "Well I don't have a spouse, I don't have any children and the only person in command I've really spoken to right now is the Captain so I can't really comment about the command structure."
"Well, that's good," agreed Chet. "I've met the captain, too. Nice guy. Might be a different story if anybody manages to break the ship or accidentally fire photon torpedos at some passing Vulcans, but barring that, I think he'll be easy to get along with."
"My meeting was rather..... offiicial, neither of us said much." She told him. "I have only been onboard the ship a few hours, it'l take a while before I've met everyone and they open up a little more."
"To be honest, I'd be more concerned if it didn't," replied Chet. "Even us chatty types keep our secrets close. It's like a mask we show the universe. 'Here's who I want you to see, now move along.' Nobody knows the real Chet. At least not yet. Stick around long enough and you might find out my favorite color, if you're lucky."
"Sometimes that masks keeps you safe, sometimes it just holds you back." She remarked knowing precisely what he was referring to, to begin with she held all her cards as close to her chest as she could but gradually let people in and it made things much easier.
"Yes, the trick is to know when to talk and when to keep your mouth shut," agreed Chet, switching to secondary scans. "I know it's hard to tell, but I usually err on the side of keeping my mouth shut."
Larissa nodded slightly, there were people that were good at talking but not actually saying anything. "Then you had best hope you never get chatting with an El-Aurian, they're naturally good at getting people to talk. Even stuff you don't want to tell them"
“I met one, once,” Chet commented. “He had the uncanny ability to seal my lips tight. Course, it could be all those warnings like what you just gave.” He added a slight grin.
"Us Orions are pretty good at it too, at least with men, though that's because they usually end up following us around like dogs on a leash if we don't take these." She said as the nurse returned with a hypospray.
"I find the men of most species will do that," Chet agreed, accepting the hypo from the nurse. "Thank you. May your children rise up and call you blessed," he told the nurse, who looked startled but pleased, and turned to wander away thoughtfully. "Yes, men are hopeless. I should know; I amone." And he pressed the hypo to the Lieutenant's neck without further preamble.
"Most women have to try to get men to follow, we get it even if we don't want them to." She grunted ever so slightly when the hypo knowing she was in for a few days of feeling really uncomfortable as the drugs affected her bodies natural rhythm.
"Just ask them if they like their eyes," he suggested, returning to his tricorder scans. "And when they say yes, ask if they want to keep them very menacingly. They'll get the picture."
"A little excessive, but if it does the trick." She shrugged slightly.
He offered her a slight grin and closed his tricroder, trading it for a PADD on which he began inputting the results. "Your blood sugar is a bit low," he told her. "When was the last time you ate?"
"Not since this morning, I didn't exactly expect to have to go straight to duty. So things didn't quite go to plan." Larissa replied and as if in cue her stomach rumbled slightly.
Chet nodded. "Your blood sugar is a little low," he replied. "I'd suggest getting some lunch. Protein, vegetables, preferably few or no extra carbs. Juice for sure, though."
"The mess hall is my next stop, then hopefully I'll get a chance to actually unpack and try and meet some of the other crew." Larissa told him.
"You and me both," agreed Chet. "I'm clearing you for duty pending a satisfactory lunch."
"Thanks doc." Larissa slipped off the biobed, "Hopefully I won't need your services till my shot next month." She smiled at him and headed for the door.
The doorway to Sickbay parted ways before Larissa reached the threshold, revealing the youthful freckled face of the Crazy Horse's Executive Officer, Lieutenant Jodon Joral who walked in with a small pep in his step and a broad smile on his face. "Evening Lieutenant Syndel, Doctor O'Hamlin," he said to both individuals with a curt nod. J.J. had yet to have the opportunity to really meet with either of them, but he was looking forward to it. All of the new crew had impressive personnel files, and he was pleased to have them aboard. He side-stepped out of Larissa's way allowing her to proceed past him. She was clearly on her way out of Sickbay.
"Doctor, would you mind checking my isoboramine levels for me? I have been feeling a bit off lately and having some restless nights. It has been a struggle to get to sleep and the whole warm milk before bed thing just is not doing the trick for me" he added. In fact, it had been a while since J.J. had a good night's sleep, but he was the sort of person who even with only a slither of the recommended amount of sleep, could roll out of bed, put his uniform on, and always come across as one of the most pleasant people.
"Of course, hop right up here and we'll take a look," replied Chet.
