Location: USS Crazy Horse Bridge/Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Day 1 at 0000

" The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word 'crisis.' One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger--but recognize the opportunity."
-John F. Kennedy-

ON:

Just because you are sitting birthed in a Starbase does NOT mean you don't have to work. The Bridge of the USS Crazy Horse was just as busy as it would be IF it were out there in space. If not, then busier. Not only is there regular duties to preform. But now you have the opportunity to do maintenance on your equipment. Make sure the computers are running at peak capacity. Basically this is exactly were you have the time to make sure everything you will use is running at 100% efficiency. Just because you are going no where does not mean there is ANY rest for the wicked.

Because of the sheer number of people on the bridge, noise pollution is sometimes a problem in situations like this. No matter how much you are trained to do you're job as quietly as possible, sometimes a voice does carry. The noise situation on the Crazy Horse's bridge was actually pretty good. you could hear some murmuring in pretty much every direction. But, for the most part, everything was kept to a dull roar.

At the Communication's station, there was a beep. The comm officer engaged the signal. Then, once she heard where the signal was coming from and who it was for, she turned at looked at the command chair immediately.

"Captain, you have a priority 1 comm link waiting for you. It's from Starfleet Command Sir." Said the Bolian Ensign.

"I'll take it in my Ready Room," Ciian said as he rose smoothly and turned in the direction of his inner sanctum. He paused long enough to order himself a cup of tea then headed over to his desk. Moments later the familiar Starfleet logo was replaced by an equally familiar figure.

"Greetings Commander." Said Admiral Cash. "I have an important assignment that has come to grace my desk. And I see that you are currently in need of one. What's your readiness status?" He asked.

"Hello, Sir," Cian responded as he felt himself move into the first steps of the dance. Admirals and parents. Difficult when combined; difficult when separate. "We're just finishing loading the supplies for Free Haven should be ready to depart within ... twenty-four hours."

"Okay, good. I have a change of orders for you. You are to proceed to the Federation Colony Skunil. It's late to check in, and people are worried. They want us to go have a look see. They are self proclaimed naturalists. a frontier group as it were. Your orders are to establish contact and render aid if needed. Also, find out why they have been out of touch." The Admiral said.

"Understood, Sir. I'll inform Free Haven that there will be a delay in receipt of their goods and we'll be underway as soon as possible," Cian said. He took a sip of tea as he started running down the list of what would need to be done between now and departure. He glanced down at his screen to see that information about the colony was already being sent to the ship's computers. Not every file has a virus and we've installed safeguards since then.

"Very good." Said the Admiral. "Keep me posted. Oh, and Commander, may I ask, How is my son doing?"

And there it is ...

"Admiral, we spoke about this when I agreed to take your son on board," Cian said. "He's my responsibility now. When it comes to your son, you're his father. That's it. And I'll tell you what I would tell any other parent who asked for information." He paused long enough to place his cup on the desk. "Talk to your son directly. That's the best way to know how he's doing."

"That is true. You are correct. Please, accept my apology." He said sounding remorseful. "But, there is your new assignment. Get underway as soon as possible. I don't need to tell you that people are anxious to know what has happened."

"I'll recall all hands and begin preparation for departure, Admiral," Cian said. "We'll find out what happened."

"I knew I could count on you. Cash out" He said disconnecting the signal.

Once the Starfleet logo had reappeared on his screen, Cian sat for a moment, finishing his tea, thinking things through. He was glad that he wouldn't have to go head to head with the Admiral though suspected that wouldn't always be the case. Glad as well that there would be a lot to do in the days to come. When he had finished his tea, he returned the cup to the replicator and headed back to the Bridge.

"Recall all hands," Cian ordered. "All departments begin preparation for departure."
