Mission: S1E3: Visit to Starbase 375
Location: USS Crazy Horse, Chief Security Officer's Office
Timeline: Day 1 at 1300

Tahlin glanced up as the door signaled a visitor--she hadn't been expecting anyone, but a distraction from paperwork was welcome. The amount of red tape involved in the last mission was a bit staggering, honestly. "Enter," she called out.

The tall svelte Caitian with, sharp angular ears perked to attention hearing the woman's voice calling out. He gave a quick tug to his uniform straightening it in hopes that there was not the slightest offputting wrinkle. He never wore the same uniform twice in a week and personally saw to it that they were the proper measurements to fit his body, modified for his Caitian anatomy, and iron pressed freshly each morning before he reported for duty on his previous assignments; This was no different.

He proceeded forward through the parting doors and stood momentarily in the threshold to announce his arrival. "M'Raul of the clan Kothar, Lieutenant Junior Grade, serial number KT-279-009 reporting as ordered" he announced with more depth and detail than necessary.

The junior lieutenant took a quick look around the woman's office. His mossy green eyes pierced around the room, taking in as much information as he could quickly perceive. Bajoran he noticed quickly recalculating and readjusting how to address her. "Lieutenant Lae'Or," he said with cautious faith that he had done justice by their naming structure. "It is an honor to make your acquaintance" he added.

"And yours... You do me the honor of proper address, and it does you credit... Have a seat, Lieutenant M'Raul." She appraised him levelly. She'd not served with a Catian since her first cadet training cruise, and found the felinoid species fascinating.

"At ease," she added as an afterthought. "I'm not all that formal when not necessary, though if it would make you more comfortable, I'll try." She gave him what she hoped was an engaging grin. She wasn't sure if the expression would register with him.

The Caitian nodded "I will try to meet you at some middle ground" replied M'Raul. It was in his nature to be stiff. "I have been told that I am rigid and not very yielding" he explained

"So," Tahlin said, turning her chair to face her visitor, "Tell me more about yourself, beyond serial number, dry statistics, and what I'm sure are a list of glowing recommendations."

He did ease a bit as she asked that question. It was one he was comfortable with. "Prior to Starfleet, I joined the Caitian Claw Guard, the planetary guard for Cait and our other worlds. My bachelors degree is in Communication and my Masters is in Conflict Resolution. I joined Starfleet later in life after working for the Federation Diplomatic Security Service."

"Interesting... Got tired of looking after people who whine a bit too much?" Tahlin responded with a chuckle. "Wanted to extend your claws a bit?"

The Caitian stifled a small chuckle with a purring sound. "Something like that," he stated. "There may have been a woman involved in the decision. It was a complicated matter and I also had someone I looked up to join Starfleet. In a way, I guess I was chasing his tracks yet I still am looking to find my own way. He was an engineer."

"Ah, love, the most delicious, frustrating, and beguiling of experiences..." Tahlin sat back in her chair. "So, what are your particular interests or strengths within security, Lieutenant?"

The Caitian nodded. "Love..sure, yes. Something of the sort at least. It did not get far enough to be certain" he said before transitioning into answering the more important question. "As a Caitian, I am naturally a far better tracker than most individuals, no offense intended. It just comes with the heightened senses" the Caitian stated. "I also proficient in hand-to-hand combat, have studied various martial arts from several worlds" he explained. "I prefer using my body as opposed to a phaser, but I would, of course, use a phaser on stun and not put myself or others at risk unnecessarily."

"Good... How are your martial arts? I've been looking for a good sparring partner. Any experience with Vulcan or Bajoran techniques?"

"I am not" he replied through his tail moved with some inquisitiveness and slight excitement. "However, I am never opposed to learning. I tried Vulcan techniques before...some Suus Mahna, but I was deemed too aggressive in my stance and actions."

"Hmmm... Would you be willing to try again? I'd also be happy to teach you some Bajoran techniques if you'd like? I could use a good sparring partner."

"Of course" the Caitian replied. "I am willing to try again. Perhaps, you'll be a better instructor. I would be honored to be a sparring partner."

"Excellent... We'll need to make sure you can handle a phaser as well, but that's easy enough... If there's nothing else, feel free to get settled in, or mingle with the others--your call."

"Thank you," replied the Caitian with a simple bow. M'Raul had no doubt in his ability to handle a phaser. It was standard issue, something he had used many times even before Starfleet although he preferred not having to fire it. "Have a good day, Lieutenant" added the Caitian before leaving.
