Position Assistant Chief - Tactical

Rank Lieutenant JG

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Caitian
Age Approximately 40 Earth Years

Physical Appearance

Height 6'3"
Hair Color Ginger
Eye Color Green
Physiology A Caitian male with a solid build and height that is rather average for a male of his species, albeit towers over most non-Caititans, M’Raul stands upright and his posture is that of a disciplined member of Starfleet Security personnel. A Felionoid as Caitians are, M’Raul has a heightened sense of smell and hearing that is beyond that of a Human and nearly matches an Antican. He has excellent night vision sight which has qualified him for more than a few nighttime operations in his careers with Starfleet and the Federation Diplomatic Security Service.

M’Raul comes from a more temperate bordering on tropical climate which is evident in his ginger colored coat of fur. He has a much lower tolerance for cold weather which makes him unsuitable for missions on planets such as Andoria. When alarmed by something or agitated, it is natural for Caitian fur to 'bristle' in a manner akin to that of a Terran cat. There is very little that a Caitian can do in order to control this bristling response, and it often occurs across their fur covered bodies. As a byproduct of the Caitian reliance on a tail to aid in balance, most Caitians coped with damage to one inner-ear through use of their tail.; however, the loss of their tail or micro-gravity conditions would lead to extreme disorientation and nausea.

Personal History Though born and raised on the minor Caitian world of Hochlor IV, M’Raul of the clan Kothar spent a significant amount of time on his peoples’ homeworld of Ferasa (Cait). His extended family were primarily congregated on Ferasa though his mother’s side of the family preferred the smaller rural life of Hochlor IV. His father’s family and the Kothar clan had a long deep-rooted history on Ferasa, having once been one of the larger more powerful clans in the pre-unification era. Though constant wars and disease eventually caused decrease land to the point of being nearly obsolete by the time the dozens of clans ultimately united, bringing forth more peaceful and prosperous times. Nevertheless, having the namesake of the clan Kothar is one of prestige and aristocracy; however, that only goes as far as the Caitian borders and younger generations invest little to no interest in such trivial matters.

M'Raul’s father despite his more noble heritage was a hardworker who started out as a smith and laborer before furthering himself academically, becoming an educated structural engineer. M’Raul’s mother on the other hand was a bit more bohemian in her ways. She enjoyed the arts and was a somewhat regionally accomplished singer, dancer, and all-around entertainer when his parents relocated to the homeworld. She was an amateur botanist who took up sculpting and painting; but became rather good at it. M’Raul’s artistic pursuits; however, were not that of painting and sculpting, but rather of the martial arts; he enjoyed studying the old forms of combat where Caitians of old fought tooth and claw, sometimes to the death to protect their territories from rival clans.

His parents instilled the same creativity and hard work ethics that they had into M’Raul and his brothers and sisters, though M’Raul was often ‘favorited’ within his family. His siblings were often envious of this and he constantly fought with his brothers and was given the cold shoulder by his sisters. They each went in their own direction when they hit the coming of age. M’Raul wanted to just enlist in the Caitian Claw Guard, the Caitian planetary defense force which had a long and distinguished history, but his parents demanded that he put that on hold and earn a respectful education at the Hsuuri Institute for Academic Success on Ferasa. There, M’Raul had classes philosophy, sociology, and civilization; however, he majored in Communications which was a very popular field of study for Caitians. Many of his people had entered service with Starfleet as communications officers though others served elsewhere within the Operations division as operations officers or engineering officers.

M’Raul would become a junior officer in the Caitian Claw Guard yet would only serve three years at the first level officer rank. His time with the guard was valuable, but it had led him to realize that he felt as though he had left academia too quickly, that he had a lot more to learn than simply effective communication skills. He was first hand witness at a Caitian Federation diplomatic envoy getting into a heated argument with an Antican Ambassador from the Beta Renner system. Though embarrassingly to use the old earth saying, it is also apropos. The Caitian and Antican had fought like cats and dogs. M’Raul saw the failure in communication. He knew the conflict could have been deescalated and that there were peaceful means of resolving the conflict. This was an event that contributed to the path he would pursue.

M'Rayr Eisovo was a childhood friend and rival of M’Raul, a wiry haired Caitian from the greenlands of C’tokh province who often was with M’Raul any time he was getting into trouble as a child. M’Rayr was older than M’Raul. The two were close into M’Raul’s teenage years; but were constantly at one another’s throats when they were not on friendly terms, having grown a bit distant being at different points of their lives. This was not uncommon as the two clans: Kothar and Eisovo had bloody history that was best described at the Capulets and Montagues of Ferasa. Though the two were not always on the best of speaking terms, they did have a long-standing respect for one another. M’Rayr Eisovo would go one to serve in the Caitian Sky Navy (planetary defense -- sector patrol) and eventually became an engineer in Starfleet. The older Caitian became a bit of an unintentional role model for M’Raul as M’Rayr left Caitian space for deep space service with Starfleet, serving during the later half of the Dominion War albeit the Eisovo name was tarnished in doing so.

It was a relocation to Earth that changed M’Raul’s life. He was no longer sheltered nor given any extra privileges that any other Federation citizen his age would get. He enrolled at the historic Georgetown University in a graduate program to work on completing a Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution. There, he would learn negotiation tactics, but also took classes that taught him how to deal with a conflict when diplomacy was not a viable solution, a last resort. He knew what he wanted to do; protect and serve. He wanted to be a guardian of peace and preserver of hope.

M'Raul went through several months of training in order to become an agent with the Federation Diplomatic Security Service. He continued to serve the FDSS agent for several years with prominent postings at the United Federation of Planets’ embassy on Ligon II protecting the Federation Ambassador to the Ligonians. While posted on Ligon II, M’Rual spent significant time studying Ligonian battleforms and watching Ligonian combat up close. It was barbaric by Federation standards, but something primal within M’Raul found an appreciation for it.

The Caitian made a career change leaving one Federation service for another, Starfleet. He already had a formal education; but would be required to go through an extension of Starfleet Academy, their Officer Training School after undergoing basic training. It would take substantially less time than four years; however, the program was intense and was not meant to be easily completed. Only those who were actually cut out for Starfleet ended up making it through OCS/OTS. M’Raul Kothar had excellent hand-to-hand experience prior to Starfleet service and was trained previously by the FDSS on standard Federation service weapons including type-II phasers and various models of phaser riffles. He was in good physical condition and passed all the physical examinations and academic examinations required to earn his officer’s commission.

Ensign Kothar was assigned to the USS Trotter for a few years as a Security Officer where he regularly volunteered for security detail on away missions, and earned the respect of his superiors, some of whom were younger than he was, but that never bothered him and they did not seem bothered by it either. He would later request transfer to the USS Crazy Horse as part of their Security & Tactical Department after undergoing several weeks of Advanced Tactical Training at Starfleet Academy.
