Things are coming together nicely as the crew arrives and they get settled. We have had a few technical setbacks, but those are being handled and coordinated between the engineers on Albright and the Corp of Engineers on starbase two-one-four.
We are right on schedule to receive our compliment of torpedoes, shuttles, and the various supplies that will be needed for a long-term mission. Security is currently working on getting hand phasers assigned to the crew, as well as inventorying the armories and weapons lockers.
Any science projects that are currently being done are in the process for approval to be transferred over to the labs. I have not had an ETA on when my Chief Science Officer will be boarding, I am hoping soon since he will be part of that approval process.
Medical has had everything it needs to move forward. There had some minor issues with the sickbay sensor grid, but those have since been resolved. The EMH will be installed sometime early next week. I am not sure how Dr. O’Hamlin will feel about the hologram, but I am told this ‘new’ EMH has been upgraded and is far more sophisticated than previous marks. I suppose we will see about that.
I do have some rather sad news to report in that the candidate I had chosen for Chief Engineer has perished in an unfortunate accident. I knew her for only a brief time, but she was extraordinary, and I had been looking forward to serving with her. I know these things should go into a personal log, however, I felt this needed to be said in an official log. I have contacted Kim Finney’s family to give my condolences. No one will be able to replace her, or her skill. She will be missed by her family, friends, and her Starfleet colleagues.
However, that leaves me without a chief engineer. I have a few other candidates in mind, but the question is, would they be able to get to us in time?
I still have plenty of reports to go through and sign off on. I also still need to meet with those on the senior staff, and other various department heads. It is a lot, but all doable. Time marches forward, and so shall we.
Computer, end Captain’s log.
