Mission: S3E1: Time of Change
Location: Earth
Timeline: Day 80 at 1200

Following the throng of people out of the hall Mimi left the lecture and headed in the general direction of the facilities canteen. So far the xenocultural seminar had been quite interesting, learning about a whole raft of species she'd never heard of before

Reaching the canteen she replicated herself a chicken and bacon salad, found a seat and was about to tuck in when a scent caught her attention and her long ears twitched slightly, there was a male Caitian nearby, getting closer. A few moments later the scents owner stepped infront of Mimi's table carrying his own tray of food.

"May I join you Miss, oh my apologise, Lieutenant." The young blue uniformed Caitian asked.

Mimi looked up and smiled, the Caitian looked familar and it took her a moment to realise he had been in the seminar too, on the opposite side of the semi circular seating area and had on several occasions looked her way. "Go ahead Mr?"

"Dr, M'Rek'er." The Caitian said as he sat down. "You are here for the seminar?" He asked after a few moments of quiet eating.

"I am yes." Mimi replied.

"What brings either an operations or engineering officer to a xeno-cultural seminar?" M'Rek'er asked, Mimi in her golden uniform had stood out in the sea of blue science uniforms that typically swamped these kinds of seminars.

"I take any chance I can learn more about different species." Mimi replied after a bite of her salad.

"I admit a main reason I asked to sit with you is, you seem unusual," M'Rek'er said with a slight grin. "You are clearly felinoid but have many human features, are you a hybrid?"

Mimi shook her head. "Many people think that I am, a mix of Human and Caitian. I sometimes describe myself as somewhere between the two but I'm a Nekomi.

"A Nekomi, I have never heard of them, where are you from?"

"Outside the federation," Mimi replied. "Though I do not know quite where."

"You don't know where you're from?" M'Rek'er asked somewhat surprised.

Mimi shook her head again. "Nope, I have never been to my homeworld, I was born on a ship on a one way trip to a colony site. I ended up here after some Klingons wiped out the colony, a starfleet ship found me long after the Klingons had left."

"Oh my." M'Rek'er said before deciding to move away from what was no doubt sensitive subject for the young lady. "I noticed when you walk you are walking plantigrade, is that natural or are you capable of digitgrade walking?"

Mimi smiled, she'd been asked the same question a few times before and had learned the difference. "I can do both, we have a....unusual leg configuration, plantigrade is fine for just walking around but if I need to be very fast or agile I can switch to digitgrade."

M'Rek'er's ears twitched as he took in what Mimi said, "That is certainly most unusual. You can change between the two at will?"

"Mid walk if I want to, it is not easy in standard issue boots so I have custom ones."

"I also noticed your elongated canine teeth, are you an oligate carnivore like us Caitians?" He knew there was plenty of meat in Mimi's salad but she had eaten quite a lot of the vegetables too.

"I am but I can eat some other things in small amounts." She stabbed a peice of lettuce with her fork and took a bite. "I do not have a very good taste for sweet or sour though."

"Excuse me," A young Ensign approached their table. "I'm looking for a Lieutenant Mimi, I was told she would be around here somewhere."

"You have found her Ensign." Mimi replied.

"I am to give you this Ma'am." The Ensign offered a Padd to her.

Mimi took the Padd and quickly ran through it. 'report to Captain Cian D'Anvers- USS Crazy Horse. Starfleet headquarters room 26.' "Thank you Ensign, please tell the Captain I will be there shortly."

"Yes Ma'am." The Ensign turned and left her and M'Rek'er to finish their meals.

"Duty calls?" M'Rek'er asked.

"I am afraid so, I hope to be back before the seminar starts again." Mimi said, she scooped up the last parts of her salad and ate it before standing up.

"I hope to see you in there again." M'Rek'er stood up too. "Thank you for indulging my curiosityi."

"Come and find me again after the seminar and we can talk some more if you want," Mimi said, "Assuming I can come back after whatever this is for."

M'Rek'er smiled. "I would like that, good day Miss Mimi."
