Physical Description S'Lace is a tall, lean female typical of her species, she possesses attractive if severe features and she wears thick black hair shoulder length, sometimes in a bun and sometimes in a "pony tail". It is an affectation she maintains due to her second husband's desire that she wear it in that manner.
Physiology The planet Vulcan orbits a red star sixteen light years from the Sol system. The climate is generally harsh, with much of the surface consisting of large deserts or mountain ranges. Vulcan has a considerably higher gravity and thinner atmosphere than Earth.6 This gives Vulcans three times the strength of a Human. While externally similar to Humans, Vulcan anatomy differs radically - for instance, their heart is where a Human's liver would normally be, and beats several hundred times per minute, while their blood is distinctly green in colour. Vulcans have very sensitive ears, and their eyes have an inner eyelid which has evolved as a defence against the harsh Vulcan sun.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Vulcan physiology is the brain. The Vulcan brain is in direct control of most of the bodily functions, acting as a control unit for many organs. Vulcans have learned to gain concious control of many of these functions, allowing them to regulate their bodies to a high degree by simple willpower. When injured a Vulcan can go into a trance-like state, using this ability to concentrate all of his or her energy onto repairing the injury. Most Vulcans also have almost complete control of automatic responses such as generated by intense pain. The Vulcan immune system is highly developed and enables them to resist most known forms of infection or illness.

Of course the most famous aspect of the Vulcan brain is the inherent telepathic ability. Many Vulcans are natural touch-telepaths, while stronger minds are capable of non-contact telepathy, usually over short distances and in a limited fashion; occasionally Vulcans have emerged whose telepathic abilities are far stronger than the norm. The rigorous mental training all Vulcans are given often allows such individuals to develop such abilities as emotional compulsion and psychic image projection.

Culturally one of the most fascinating species in the Beta Quadrant, the Vulcans were once an extremely violent and emotive people who waged almost constant warfare on one another. As their level of technology improved, the Vulcans eventually reached a point where their violent nature threatened species extinction. In an effort to avoid this fate, a Vulcan named Surak developed a new philosophy; Surak maintained that the root cause of all the problems on Vulcan lay in the uncontrolled outpouring of the peoples emotions. His followers swore to live their lives by an ethical system devised devised by Surak and based purely on logical principles. All expression of emotions, negative or positive, was completely forbidden.16 Although this new philosophy spread rapidly across Vulcan, a minority rejected Surak's ideals. They left Vulcan and founded colonies elsewhere - most notably on the planet Romulus, where they founded what eventually became the Romulan Star Empire.

Personality & Traits

General Overview S'Lace is a solitary soul who finds it difficult to make friends. Partly this is due to her upbringing, but it also stems from her past tragedies. She is not eager to form close bonds of any sort.

Except for the cat. For some reason the cat has insidiously formed a deep and affectionate bond which with her that she has been reciprocating almost against her will.
Strengths & Weaknesses Once earned S'Lace is loyal almost to a fault. Other than that her greatest strength is her honesty. Her greatest weakness is also her honesty. Many have said her "bedside manner" leaves something to be desired. She can be a bit direct, bordering on the impolite.
Ambitions S'Lace has few if any ambitions. She is frankly surprised she has wound up where she has.
Languages Spoken Federation Standard, Vulcan, Romulan, Cardassian, conversational Klingon
Hobbies & Interests S'Lace is quite a fan of mystery novels such as the Terran PD James. She is also a fan of some works from several Andorian novelists as well as a couple of Klingons.

S'Lace is no expert at martial arts, although she can handle herself in a scrap. She has acquired some skill with the Vulcan ahn woon; she wears one around her waist beneath her jacket.

Personal History Some see Starfleet Academy as an opportunity. Others see it as an obstacle. For S'Lace, who wanted to reach space as quickly as possible, she joined Starfleet as a crewman, much to the distress of her parents. She served with distinction on various vessels. Fate seemed to throw her into the thick of the fighting with the Cardassians; during many of the years she had served she had been on board many vessels that had engaged in border skirmishes along the border they shared with the Federation. S'Lace had initially been a simple crewman but very quickly she had gravitated towards the medical field when her superiors noted she had a knack for assisting doctors and nurses. She had soon become an expert at triage and would often assist in medical procedures when a nurse was not available. During this period she experienced Pon Farr and gave birth to a son, who through mutant consent was to be raised by her husband Sten who was a Geologist who seldom left Vulcan. Unfortunately both Sten and S'Ren were killed when their transport was destroyed by a Cardassian raider while the pair were coming to see S'Lace while she was on shore leave. The loss had proven great to S'Lace and it was only through the strength of her friendship with Lorcan Mulloy that she endured. Over time the friendship grew into something stronger and the pair married then retired from Starfleet to settle on a colony world.

Unfortunately said world was along the Cardassian border and due to the new treaty it was now on the wrong side. S'Lace and Lorcan knew they should leave but he was stubborn and she relented. It was not long after that decision was made that Lorcan was murdered by the Cardassians. And S'Lace lost her mind. Unfortunately for the Cardassians the Maquis found S'Lace and recruited her.

Other members of the Maquis trated S'Lace like a barely tamed targ, she surrendered to the blood lust her ancestors had suppressed through logic and discipline. There were stories of atrocities that to this day only S'Lace seems to know whether are truth or fiction. She was captured by Starfleet and incarcerated, which was fortunate because mere weeks later the Dominion wiped out the rest of the Maquis in the Alpha Quadrant. S'Lace received some much needed mental counseling and then she was offered a job as guide on her world to fight the Cardassians and Dominion. S'Lace agreed. By war's end she was at loose ends and spent years adrift, working odd jobs here and there. Vulcan was alien to her now, her parents strangers. Ultimately an old ship mate found her working as a medic on a freighter and pointed out she was wasting her life. Starfleet could always use a good doctor.

And S'Lace decided, why not?
